What is “Pave the Way?”
For the last nine years, Friends of Dreamland (FOD) has been raising money to restore the historic Dreamland Ballroom in downtown Little Rock, AR. One of our biggest goals as an organization was met the spring 2018 when the National Parks Services awarded FOD with a grant that would fund the addition of an elevator shaft. Making the 3rd floor ballroom handicap accessible.
With the increased accessibility, Dreamland Ballroom is well on it’s way to serving central Arkansas in its most historic fashion. But unlike 100 years ago, the modern socialite drives a car! Funding toward our Pave the Way (PTW) program will help FOD brick the walkway & pave the parking lot around Taborian Hall. As well as some much needed landscaping. While we have plenty of space for parking (a rarity downtown) we lack the smooth infrastructure. Give to PTW and be immortalized on 9th St while improving the utility and beautification of downtown space.
You can buy a Lil’ Brick, 4”x8”, or a Big Brick, 8”x8”. Each is inscribed with a name, a memory, a phrase, whatever you would like and can fit on the brick size you select. People have put the names of their family members, living and deceased, loved ones that grew up in the historic 9th St district where our building is located, even wacky phrases like, “Put on your big girl panties and deal with it!” Why not?? The idea is simply to immortalize your supportive effort to FOD; however, you choose to do that!
Be an Elevated Donor!
In 1918, the Knights and Daughters of Tabor completed construction of the Taborian Hall and Dreamland Ballroom. Marble bricks were inlaid into the wall of the front portico that displayed the other temples and tabernacles across Arkansas, at the time, for the fraternal organization. Honoring their support of the new headquarters in Little Rock. Friends of Dreamland continues this tradition by honoring its donors, the modern-day supporters of the Taborian Hall, with bricks that will be set into the building’s walls and sidewalks.
Elevated donors will have their names inscribed on a marble, honorary plaque in the vestibule of the new elevator addition. This more closely mimics the brick design in the portico of the original building.
